Intermediate wall heat transfer this kind of heat exchanger is also called surface graphite heat exchanger or indirect graphite heat exchanger, using graphite heat exchanger for hot and cold separation, with a solid wall to transfer the heat to the other side, which avoids mixing of the two kinds of fluids, but also achieves the purpose of heat exchange of the two kinds of fluids. Therefore, this kind of heat exchanger is widely used in chemical and petroleum industries. There are many kinds of spacer type graphite heat exchanger, among which the widely used one is shell and tube type graphite heat exchanger, which mainly consists of shell, tube plate arranged in parallel and fixed with the tube bundle, baffle plate, end cover and so on. In operation, it is assumed that the hot fluid flows through the pipe to release heat, which is transferred from the pipe wall to the outside of the pipe, while the cold fluid flows out through the pipe to take away the heat, and the two fluids exchange heat without mixing.
The regenerative heat transfer process takes place in the regenerator, which is internally arranged with heat storage media such as refractory bricks. Two graphite heat exchangers are usually used alternately, i.e. switching operation, and for one of the regenerators it is intermittently operated heat exchange equipment. During operation, the hot fluid is heated by the regenerator (i.e. graphite heat exchanger), the temperature of the heat storage medium rises, i.e. the heat is stored, and then it enters the cold fluid, and the graphite condenser takes the heat away from the filler medium used repeatedly, and releases the heat by aggregating it with the use of the heat storage medium, so as to achieve the purpose of heat exchange between the hot and cold fluids. Regenerative graphite heat exchanger in the oil cracking and metallurgical industry is very common, but in chemical production is rarely used, the main reason is that in chemical production, most of the time the two kinds of fluids in the heat exchange process is not allowed to mix.
